Swimsafer Programme

the objective is to gain confidence and develop independence in the water. This stage will also introduce you to general and deep-end water safety. Techniques taught on this stage includes safe entry and exit, forward and backward movement, and introduction to personal water survival skills.

General skills development will include unassisted step entry into water, sculling, feet-first surface dives, personal water safety skills and water safety awareness in an aquatic environment. Your child will be encouraged to achieve 25 metres of continuous swim.

the aim is for students to be able to swim 25metres continuously. Perform a stride/straddle entry. Demonstrate sculling in a horizontal position for 10 seconds with arms only. Demonstrate the ability to change direction on command.

Development of child's stroke techniques is a focus here, along with coordinated breathing in deep water while swimming 100 metres. Principles of water craft safety will be introduced as well as continual work on rescue and personal survival skills.

This stage is designed to challenge learners by increasing the drag and resistance they experience while swimming and performing survival skills. The heavier clothing makes tasks such as surface diving, swimming through hoops, and treading water more challenging.

Children will be required to perform strokes with greater ease, efficiency, power and smoothness over 400 metres. Rescue skills and water safety knowledge will focus on lifesaving readiness. Standing dive and personal safety skills will continue to be taught.
